STRATH HAVEN RECAP / RESULTS
The Fords Swimming and Diving Team kicked off the 2009 - 2010 season
with a victory over Strath Haven High School. The highlights of the
meets included several lifetime bests for many swimmers (both freshmen
and upperclassmen).
A number of swimmers and divers qualified individually
for AAA Districts, including the following:
Taylor Hart (50 Free)
Kelly Quinn (Diving)
Allie Butera (Diving)
Sarah Somers (100 Fly, 100 Breast)
Ryan Wolfe (200 IM, 100 Breast)
Spenser Jenkins (100 Fly)
Alex Hart (100 Free)
James Wing (500 Free)
All results from the meet are attached to this email.
When viewing the times, a swimmer may see any of the following 'tags'
next to their times: AAA, AA, or CL. Those tags indicate if a time meets
the qualifying times for AAA Districts, AA Districts, or Central League
Champs. Since we are a AAA School in District 1, the AA tag has no relevance
for a swimmer's time (the time standards file I use has all three as
a part of the file...no way to select which ones to use...sorry for
the confusion). Most AA times, however, are CL times (the higher standard,
if met, always trumps the lower standard).
Also, note that relay splits are also available from all
relays. I encourage all team members to keep a log of their times /
diving scores to track performance throughout the season.
If anyone has any questions about the way results are
displayed, etc., send me an email.
Also, I would like to recognize our first Swimmers/Divers
of the Meet, as voted on by the team. This is new this season,
and we want our team to recognize great efforts during competition.
Our swimmers of the meet for the Strath Haven meet were:
GIRLS
Claire Harte - Claire dropped 35 seconds in her 500 Free Time. WOW!
Maggie Gavin-Hanner - Maggie made an impressive return to the team (after
a 2-year absence) with a 1:05.81 in the 100 Back vs. SH
BOYS
For the boys, the team voted for the entire quintet of Lower Merion
Aquatic Club boys who posted lifetime bests in the meet on Friday:
Spenser Jenkins: Thrilling 23.8 split (2 seconds faster
than lifetime best) to close and win the 200 Free Relay
Mike Kirk: Posted lifetime bests in the 100 Free (57.12) and 50 Free
(25.69)
James Wing: Dropped 3 seconds in 500 Free and qualified for Districts
in the event (went 5:15)
Ryan Wolfe: Posted lifetime best time in 100 Breast with 1:03.85
Ian Robinson: Dropped 2 seconds in 100 Breast for a time of 1:16 (down
from a 1:43 during season last year)
Andrew Zalles: Dropped 4 seconds off lifetime best in 100 Fly (went
1:03) in first high school meet
Congrats to all on a fine performance!
Up next, the Boys will visit Glen Mills on Friday afternoon.
All boys swimmers will be dismissed at 2:00 PM to get the bus to Glen
Mills. The meet starts at 3:30 PM. This meet is usually a quick one
since there is no diving or girls' meet...it's usually over by 4:30
PM (with a return to HHS around 5:00 - 5:15 PM).

KINNEY OPEN INFORMATION
The Fords will travel to Bucknell University on Saturday, December 19
for the 2009 Kinney Open. This meet is a great chance for our team to
compete at a tremendous swimming/diving facility (the same venue as
the State Championships), and a great chance to compete against competition
from across the state. Our hope as a team is to post some fast times
in a fast pool, and to gain some qualifying times for meets like Central
League Champs and Districts. It's going to be a long day, but one where
we hope to experience some great success.
The following swimmers and divers are scheduled to participate in the
meet:

EXPECTED TIMELINE
We have not attended this meet before, so this will be a 'first-time'
event. Radnor High School has attended the meet for many years, and
according to their coaches, the meet typically ends between 5:00 and
6:00 PM. Their coaches have stated that they are typically home by 9:00
PM on Saturday night (with time included for stopping for dinner before
heading home).
FOOD
Food is NOT PERMITTED on the pool deck. Beverages, in plastic containers,
are permitted on the pool deck. The concessions stand, located on the
second floor by spectator seating, will be open throughout the swim
meet.
I would suggest all swimmers/divers pack their own food/beverages
or bring money for meals during the day. I will address this with the
team this week.
SPECTATORS / PARENTS ATTENDING
I am not sure if parents are planning on attending the meet due to the
travel time, etc., (approx. 2 - 2.5 hours by car), but if they want
to attend, it may be a good idea to carpool. I will leave that up to
parents to coordinate.
Spectators should use the main entrance to the Sojka Pavillion
at Bucknell. Admission fee to the event is $4.00 per person. Children
under the age of 10 will be admitted for free. Tickets may be purchased
at the Sojka Box Office on Saturday. The Box Office will open at 9:00
AM. Spectators may park in any legal parking spot on campus.
Directions to Bucknell are as follows:
1. Take I-476 to Northeast Extension
2. Take Northeast Extenstion to I-80 WEST
3. Take I-80 WEST to EXIT 210A
4. Exit onto Route 15 South
5. Travel through approximately 11 lights, and turn left onto Moore
Avenue.
6. Kinney Natatorium is part of Kenneth Langone Athletic Center
Visit www.bucknell.edu for more details. The official
address of Bucknell is 701 Moore Avenue, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
That's all for now. Have a great week, everyone.
